Dear scrappers,
I got a perfume kit in this great and realized it was the perfect size and shape to create a glasses/key holder for my husband for Father's Day. I got many Tim Holtz products to cover this box and make it an upcycling project :-)
I got inspired my the great Tim and his Compendium of Curiosities 4. Thus, I decided to use the texturing paste and my new stencils for this challenge at Linda Ledbetter's blog:
The CC3 challenge 4

Here is the final product and how is hanging at our hall/ home organization area...
I used the acrylic plastic from the packaging to make the inserts/dividers and covered them using more of the original package. I loved the finish of thus glossy card stock and wanted to incorporate it as it was in the final box. However, I can image some sponging with alcohol inks would be great too...
I used some chocolate card stock (CTMH) for covering the back too.
I used the texturing paste and stencils to embellish the wood letters and the main backdrop for hanging the keys. I stained the letters with walnut stain (Ranger) before applying the texturing paste. Then, I used metallic rubs for giving the paste some extra interest...
For the background I used this interesting craft paper pre-embossed and used many distressing inks to highlight the oceans and continents... Then, I applied the paste with the stencils and distressed them with more metallic rubs (I had those since ~10+ years)...
I added some brads in form of safety pins to attach the box to the wall and used Tim's door knob for holding the keys and two small hooks I found at a local store. I stained the brads (originally purple) and the metallic hooks using the distressing stain in tarnished brass.
I covered the rest of the box and added some distressing stain to the box edges and papers as well as the spines of the dividers to make them blend better with the background.
Here more details and pictures:
This was a great challenge and techniques...
